The “print security” conversation

In a survey of UK, French and German midmarket and large companies, Quocirca found that only 22% of all the businesses surveyed were completely satisfied that their print infrastructure was secure. That could be an awkward conversation to have in the age of stringent data privacy.

GDPR compliance and secure printing in particular can seem daunting. Yet businesses need to get these areas locked down or else face potential fines of €20 million (£17.6 million) or 4% of their global turnover – after a slow start, hefty GDPR fines are starting to happen – almost 100 in conservative estimates as of February.

The other reminder from this is that GDPR isn’t all about online data – breaches can also occur as a result of documents carelessly left at printers or around the office. But companies operating a standardised printer fleet are 26% less likely to suffer data loss.

You can avoid awkward privacy and security vulnerability questions with a secure print set-up.

How to avoid printer conversations – don’t be Dave, consider your vulnerabilities

We’re doing it again – saying that nobody wants printer conversations, and then starting a printer conversation! But it need not be difficult, or awkward. Network-connected printers can be a route into your company for cyber criminals. For example, if default passwords are still in use or your Wi-Fi network is unsecure, your printing is vulnerable. By failing to tackle these potential weak spots, your business is in danger of GDPR’s heavy-weight penalties.
